After 21 years of marriage, Leah Remini and Angelo Pagan decided to do what was best for them: They filed for divorce.
The former couple posted a joint statement on social media on Thursday. Remini, 54, and Pagan, 56, have been together for nearly 30 years, but the decision to end their relationship came “after much thought and consideration,” they said.
“Divorce is hard, but we are approaching it with a positive outlook because we know it’s what’s best for us,” the couple wrote. “We’re proud of how we’ve navigated this together.”
In a lengthy statement, Remini and Pagan both admitted they were “saddened” by the end of their marriage, but said they were “still together in many ways, and apart in others, and will continue to move forward into a new normal.”
Remini and Paagan, who have a 20-year-old daughter, said they plan to continue vacationing together, watching their favorite TV shows together and spending time with their family.
“Simply put, we both changed, as people do, and got used to playing roles that no longer fit us,” the soon-to-be-divorced spouses wrote. “Our bond is still strong; it’s just evolved into something different.”
Remini and Pagan congratulated their marriage, calling it a “huge success.”

They said they decided to make a candid statement about their divorce because they had shared so much about their relationship publicly, including on various TV specials. Leah Remini: Everything is relativeIt’s a drama that aired on TLC for two seasons.
“We want everyone to have more access to diverse relationship stories and not feel isolated as they navigate the changes that millions of couples make every year,” Remini and Pagan continued. “We hope that our journey can inspire others to realize that relationships, whether they change or end, are not failures.”
The former couple said they will continue to share “pieces” of their lives as they move forward with their divorce and new futures.
Remini, best known for her long-running role King of Queens, He has a daughter, Sofia Bella, with Pagán. He also has three children from previous relationships.
The couple met in 1996 and married in Las Vegas in 2003.
When Remini left the Church of Scientology in 2013 after 30 years of membership, Pagan also left the church.
Since then, Remini has been publicly critical of Scientology, accusing the religious group and its founder David Miscavige of gross abuses of power.
Remini is currently embroiled in a legal battle with the Church over claims that religious leaders retaliated against her for years with a campaign of “continuous, aggressive harassment” and “mob-style tactics and attacks.” The Church of Scientology denies all claims and claims Remini “spreads lies and hate speech.”
