Baldur’s Gate 3 has been out for a year, and while Larian Studios hasn’t released any major DLC, the developers have continued to tweak the game with new cutscenes and options. A new update coming in September will add a new ending tailored to the most evil adventurers among us. Larian has teased a few of these evil endings on Twitter to get fans excited.
Larian showed off clips of a few of these endings on Twitter, and they’re truly evil. One of them, Dark Urge, shows an alternate Origin playthrough cursing a terrible fate for its companions. For those who enjoy choosing evil playthroughs, it’s nice to see a little more variety in the endings. It feels great to rehabilitate Astarion and befriend Shadowheart, but sometimes you just want to watch the world burn.
Dark Urge can commit great evil, but don’t worry, the traditional player-created protagonist Tav can cause all sorts of trouble for everyone. The evil Tav doesn’t have the same backstory or connection to the antagonist. Instead, they’re just evil for the love of the game, and I can respect that.
It’s been interesting to see how Larian has adjusted the game post-launch. Originally, the drow Minthara could only be recruited if you threw the poor tiefling from Emerald Grove under the bus. Now, good alignment players can recruit her in Act II thanks to a clever workaround. While some fans are hoping for more additions here and there, like a forbidden romance with Gortash, I’m happy with this new, mean ending scenario for one of the best RPG stories ever told.
