“It seems like a long time since the big developers felt free to take a risk on something different. Sure, there are the occasional indie project that gets the help of a major publisher, but rarely do they come from one single developer. So while Capcom has received a lot of praise for its handling of the Resident Evil and Street Fighter franchises, and has recently put out a number of remakes that breathe new life into classics, the arrival of the unusual Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is something of a surprise. Combining action and strategy with a Japan-based aesthetic that’s centered around harmony, it’s an experimental title, but will it succeed?”
