NBA star Kevin Durant has become a new minority shareholder in three-time Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, the French club announced on Wednesday.
According to ESPN, the gold medalist for Team USA at the 2024 Olympics is investing millions of dollars of his own money to join the club.
He did so through Arctos Sports Partners, an American investment fund that bought a 12.5% stake in the club in 2023, valuing PSG at $4.6 billion (€4.25 billion). Durant’s arrival at the club is aimed at further developing the PSG brand in the United States from a marketing and sponsorship perspective, especially since the 2025 Club World Cup and the 2026 World Cup are scheduled to be held in the United States over the next two summers.
Durant, 35, who plays for the Phoenix Suns, is an avid soccer fan and co-owner of MLS team Philadelphia Union. He is close friends with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and visited the Parisian training ground and the Parc des Princes stadium several times before making the investment.
On August 6th, he stopped by Campus PSG to greet some players, staff and coach Luis Enrique.
A source told ESPN that Durant is excited to be joining the club and is taking the investment very seriously.
