Most Star Wars fans are either celebrating or (for some odd reason) mourning the death of The Acolyte on Disney Plus earlier this month. Of course, this has led to more conversation about the show among those who created it and those in the know, and now we know that Keanu Reeves may have been a part of it.
We should take this shocking revelation with a grain of salt. So far, it’s just a rumor (and now that the series has been canceled, it’s unlikely to be confirmed), but renowned Hollywood insider Jeff Snyder is known to stay very close to the grain when it comes to Star Wars, so it’s possible that talks have taken place between Reeves and Lucasfilm at some point.

The news comes from Jeff Sneider’s weekly newsletter (via StarWarsNewsNet ), a fairly reliable spoofer who says that Reeves was actually interested in the proposed role of Master Sol. However, his schedule ultimately didn’t allow for a Ballerina schedule, and he had to back out of the role. As we all know, Master Sol was eventually played by Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae, who gave a performance that deserved all the praise.
Of course, this would have seen Reeves reunited with his Matrix co-star Carrie-Anne Moss on the small screen, but since Moss has a prominent role in the series as Jedi Master Indara, a wink to that film series might have been too much for some viewers.
This isn’t the first time Reeves has been linked to The Acolyte. He’ll be voicing Shadow the Hedgehog in theaters this Christmas. Rumors of him making a cameo appearance in the series first surfaced last year, and those rumors likely came from mixed chatter and tips when he sat down to talk to Lucasfilm.
According to Snyder, there’s still a good chance Reeves will join the Star Wars universe, as everyone is interested. Now it’s just a matter of finding the right role and getting the timing right. What if James Mangold casts him as the first Jedi in the Dawn of the Jedi prequel film? It seems like a perfect fit and would sell a lot of tickets.
