When you are the child of a celebrity/athlete, it may seem to outside observers that the parents are trying to guide or manipulate their children to follow the same path. However, for many celebrities/athletes, that is not true. In the case of Carmelo and Kiyan Anthony, that is definitely not true. The 17-year-old recently ESPEN And his father set the record straight, saying he “never forced him to follow in his footsteps.”
“(My father) doesn’t push me to go to Syracuse just because they have a name on the gym,” Kiyan told the outlet. “He’s done a lot at Syracuse. He knows I’m my guy. At the end of the day, I have to make my own decisions.”
“If it’s Syracuse — I go there a lot and practice and work out — if it’s Syracuse, that’s it,” Kiyan added. “But he’s never going to say, ‘You have to go to Syracuse. You have to go because I went.’ He’s not going to make me follow in his footsteps unless I really want to.”
As you may know, the talented young athlete is deciding where to spend his next four years after graduating from high school. Kiyan received a ton of offers from 21 schools and narrowed his choices down to six: Syracuse, his father’s alma mater, Ohio State, Auburn, Florida, Rutgers, and the University of Southern California (USC).
Kiyan said in an interview that “the whole world” wants him to attend his father’s alma mater, but he is taking his time researching and deciding which campus and basketball program is the right fit for him.
“I know the whole world wants me to go to Syracuse, but I haven’t made up my mind yet,” he said. “I’m going to rely a lot on my parents’ advice and their thoughts on whether the school is right for me.”
The world is undoubtedly watching and waiting to see where Kiyan will call home. Carmelo Anthony has a son, Kiyan, with his ex-wife La La Anthony.
