FC Cincinnati Academy today announced the hiring of former FC Cincinnati defender Justin Hoyte as assistant coach for its U13 and U14 teams. Hoyte played for the Orange and Blue for three seasons before rejoining the FC Cincinnati organization.
Hoyte joined FC Cincinnati in their second season in the USL Championship in 2017, appearing in 20 games and making 17 starts. Hoyte was a member of the 2018 Cincinnati team that won the Players’ Shield and scored 77 points, recording the second-highest single-season point total in league history.
Hoyte remained with FC Cincinnati in the club’s first year in Major League Soccer in 2019, appearing in 17 games and playing 1,477 minutes. In total, Hoyte appeared in 73 games for FC Cincinnati, scoring two goals and adding four assists in the USL Championship and Major League Soccer.
The England Youth International began his professional career with Arsenal in the English Premier League in 2002 after coming through the club’s academy system. Hoyte played 34 league games and 8 UEFA Champions League games for Arsenal over five seasons in the Premier League between 2002 and 2008.
Hoyte continued his professional career in England with loan spells with Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Millwall, and played one season for Dag & Red FC before moving to Cincinnati. Hoyte made over 200 league appearances in the English Premier League and English Championship between 2002 and 2017.
On 4 June 2013, Hoyte made his debut for the Trinidad and Tobago national team in an international friendly against Romania. Hoyte has represented Trinidad and Tobago 18 times in various international competitions, including the 2013 Gold Cup and World Cup qualifiers.
