Rhode Island FC News Release
PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Rhode Island FC midfielder Jogea Kwaijera was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for the second straight week after recording a goal and an assist in the team’s first home win over El Paso Locomotive FC on Wednesday.
After returning from the recent Africa (CAF) 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda and scoring the winner for The Wasps against Lesotho, Kwizera was named in the Team of the Week for Week 16 and then put in another impressive display in RIFC’s historic 3-0 win over El Paso. Kwizera’s first attacking contribution came on 21 minutes when he latched onto a corner from Marc Ibarra and sent a dangerous cross to the back post where the onrushing Albert Dikwa “Chico” scored RIFC’s first goal of the game.
Six minutes later, Kwizera added his Man of the Match performance to his second USL Championship goal in two games. After a quick pass from striker JJ Williams down the midfield line, the midfielder made his way up the left flank and into the penalty box. With a clever footwork, Kwizera took advantage of the tightest of angles to fire a left-footed shot for his second goal in five days.
Kwizera is the 11th Rhode Island FC honoree to be named to the 2024 USL Championship Team of the Week.
