Joel Embiid suffered a sinus fracture after being hit in the face while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers.They lost 121-107 to the Indiana Pacers on Friday night.
Embiid left the game Friday night just before halftime after being hit in the face while attempting a defensive rebound.
Embiid was involved in a fight with Indiana’s Bennedict Mathurin when his forearm and elbow landed on the bridge of his nose. Embiid crumpled to the ground and held his face as he stayed near the Philadelphia bench as the play continued on the floor.
The club ruled him out early in the second half due to “concussion to the right side of his face” and said he would undergo further tests. He had 12 points, four rebounds and five assists in 17 1/2 minutes in the 76ers’ 121-107 loss.
Embiid played in only the sixth of Philadelphia’s 23 games. He suffered from a left knee injury and was also suspended for three games for making physical contact with a reporter.
Embiid has also suffered multiple facial injuries, including suffering an orbital fracture after colliding with Toronto’s Pascal Siakam during the 2022 playoffs and an orbital fracture after colliding with teammate Markelle Fultz in 2018. Last year, Embiid suffered Bell’s palsy in a first-round playoff loss to New York.
