Jim Bob Duggar and Jill Dillard are definitely making progress.
The long-standing estrangement between Jill and her terrible parents is no secret.
Her father forbade her from entering the house, except on rare occasions when he specifically gave her permission to do so.
But Jim Bob may have given Jill the green light recently. As you can see in the photos below, we had a bit of a family gathering over the holidays.

Jill, 33, appeared in a large set of family photos. It wasn’t her picture or Jim Bob’s picture.
Instead, brother James Duggar shared photos from his infamous family Christmas party on Instagram.

As any Duggar fan or critic can tell you, this photo is from the Duggar compound. And especially at Jim Bob and Michelle’s house.
In the most arresting photo, we see Jill and Jim Bob sitting on the sofa. Same sofa.
Don’t worry. Jill still has her husband Derick as a buffer. Naturally, her controversial husband sits between her and her father.
Things weren’t going well between Jill and Jim Bob Duggar.
Over the years, it’s been clear that Jill has distanced herself from Jim Bob’s infamous rules and egregious behavior.
Over time, Jill became more vocal about the topic, admitting to estrangement and detailing her traumatic childhood.

Many of the criticisms Jill (and husband Derick) have leveled against Jim Bob have more to do with money than the abusive cult in which Jill was raised.
Notoriously, the Duggar family patriarch used his money to maintain most of his adult children. But there was a deeper meaning than many critics realized.
Jill and Derick explained that her father presented the family’s real-life career as a kind of volunteer work, as if he was volunteering to model his extreme fundamentalist lifestyle as a kind of public good. In fact, Jim Bob pocketed such a huge paycheck from TLC that Jill and Derick had to hire lawyers to get their fair cut.
What does this reunion mean?
In fact, all we know from this photo is that Jill was willing to spend time around Jim Bob and this time she allowed him into her house.
We don’t know how often she sees her parents these days. This may have been a special case, especially since the Duggar family is fundamentalist Christians and considers Christmas a particularly important time.
Jill doesn’t have to reconcile with her horrible dad. But if she wants a closer relationship with him, that is acceptable. It’s a mistake, but it’s acceptable.
