Jhené Aiko has revealed she lost her home in the fires that swept through Los Angeles this week, and she’s responding to people who discount her because of her financial situation.
This week’s wildfire officially grew into the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history. While people in various neighborhoods across the city dealt with the damage, many celebrities said they lost their homes due to the damage, and some people acted like it was no big deal.
On Thursday, January 9, Jhené Aiko announced on social media that she lost her home to a fire. According to her announcement, it “burned down,” and she is now focused on “starting from scratch.”
“Praying for everyone this morning,” the singer wrote on Instagram. “People who lost their homes. People who lost their lives, people who lost their lives. I pray for my city. We pray for wild animals and lost pets. I pray for the world. Make pain a gift. A lesson in compassion.”
After praying for everyone in Los Angeles affected by the wildfires, Aiko revealed in the next slide that her house is no longer standing. But despite losing everything, she is grateful that she and her family are safe.
“My home and my children’s home is gone. It burned to the ground with all our belongings inside. Lord have mercy,” she wrote. “Thank you, we still have each other. Let’s start from the beginning. “My heart is so heavy.”
Jhené Aiko is mom to her first daughter, Namiko Love Browner, 16, and shares son Noah, 2, with her longtime love, Big Sean. The Twenty88 collaborators gave birth to their first child in November 2022.
The “Stay Ready” singer is just one of tens of thousands of celebrities who lost their homes in the fire. While some fans took to the comments section to give their two cents, claiming that celebrities losing their homes isn’t something to cry about, Jhené responded by letting people know that she worked very hard for what she has.
“With all due respect. “Too many of you are loud and wrong,” she began. “I worked hard and through a lot of pain for many years to provide this home for my children. I put everything into it. I pray that none of you ever experience anything like this.”
She then added a second comment: TheShadeRoom Instagram has been hit with claims that she has ‘Paris Hilton-like money’ to rebuild. According to Jhené, she doesn’t. And she went through a similar situation in elementary school when her house burned down and the kids bullied her, thinking she was “rich.”
“The fact that some of you think I have Paris Hilton’s money is outrageous. I didn’t get that, but I have a big, loving family who deserves more than anything.”
She continued,
“When I was in second grade, my house burned down. I never understood why some kids at school were so mean. Because we thought we were rich even though we weren’t. But they thought we were rich because we had love!! Luckily, things are better than they were then. And I pray that I can receive as much grace as my mother did. I work very hard for my family. I pray that everyone stays safe.”
