Despite multiple injuries at QB in 2023, the Browns still finished the season with an 11-6 record, second in the AFC North. Their defense was the strongest unit on the team, and it kept them in games. One of the unsung heroes of their defense last season was Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
The 24-year-old has started 16 of the Browns’ 17 games in 2023. It was also the best season of his career for Owusu-Koramoa in his third year in Cleveland. His outstanding performance led the Browns to sign Owusu-Koramoa to a long-term contract. Today, the former second-round pick signed a three-year, $39 million extension with the Browns. Owusu-Koramoa will be a key piece of the Browns’ defense in 2024.

He signed a three-year deal worth up to $39 million with $25 million guaranteed through negotiations with CAA, a deal that should get the 24-year-old back at the negotiating table quickly. pic.twitter.com/O5fTz8fDNv

With the 52nd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Browns selected LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah from Notre Dame. Also known as “JOK,” Owusu-Koramoah started at least 10 games in Cleveland in his first three seasons. The talented LB had a breakout campaign for the Browns in 2023. His 16 games, 13 starts, 3.5 sacks, six passes defensed, 101 combined, and 72 solo tackles were all career highs. JOK was also selected to his first Pro Bowl, and likely not his last. Browns general manager Andre Berry was enthusiastic about how quickly JOK was able to adapt to the NFL.
Berry said Owusu-Koramoah has “Matrix-like athleticism.” Cleveland expects JOK to take another step forward in Year 4. With an average salary of $13 million, JOK is currently the sixth-highest-paid LB in the NFL. He’s just behind Pittsburgh Steelers’ Patrick Queen, who makes $13.7 million per season. Owusu-Koramoah is known for his ability to cover receivers, tight ends and running backs at a high level. Not every player can do that. Elite linebacker coverage is what the modern NFL is turning to, and JOK fits that profile. The Browns expect the 24-year-old LB to have another great season in 2024. They open the season at home against the Dallas Cowboys.
