Jadon Sancho’s position at Manchester United is quite unique.
Many believe he has kicked his last ball for the club, and while that may still be the case, the prospect of him becoming a new star signing, the return of the prodigal son, ready to finally fulfil the potential United paid €85m for in 18 months, has left him with.
Juventus and other teams are hoping to sign Sancho on loan this season, but that is unlikely. The situation is clear according to reports: pay £40 million or he stays.
According to Ineos’ logic, he is an asset because the manager Erik Ten Hag and the player have resolved their feud. Imagine if he continues to play in the same form he did at Borussia Dortmund. Why loan him out?
But with funds tight and other positions desperately needed to be strengthened, £40m would go a long way in plugging the gaps, leaving United with just four capable wingers in Alejandro Garnazzo, Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo and Anthony. Well, three capable wingers and Anthony…
For fans, welcoming Sancho back is like waiting for VAR before celebrating a goal. We think we have something to look forward to, but we can never be sure because it could be taken away from us at the last minute. For example, PSG are rumoured to have included him in their three-man shortlist to replace Kylian Mbappe.
So, for now, we should refrain from killing fattened calves.
But is Sancho himself losing sleep over this? Certainly not. TelegraphThe 24-year-old is very capable as a winger as well as a sleeper.
According to the outlet, “United are doing everything they can to help their players adjust to the time difference in the US, but one player who is not at all bothered by the disruption to their sleeping patterns caused by the eight-hour time difference is Jadon Sancho.
“The England striker … slept most of the 11-hour flight from Manchester to Los Angeles and once slept an entire night uninterrupted in his room at the SLS in Beverly Hills.”
This strange little report could either suggest that the former City academy star is content and comfortable with the world, or that he is disconnected from his teammates and dreams of being somewhere else. Or, as is most likely the case, it makes no sense at all.
One thing that could tell us more is whether Ten Hag will start Sancho against Arsenal tonight. With Marcus Rashford, Amad and Antony competing, starting Sancho would clearly show his importance to the manager and the squad. If he were to be brought on as a substitute instead, the VAR decision would take a little longer.
