South Africa captain Aiden Markram praised and supported his team despite losing against India in the third T20I of the four-match series at SuperSport Park on Wednesday. Arshdeep Singh’s three-wicket haul and Tilak Varma’s unbeaten run helped India register an 11-run win over South Africa. The right-handed batsman said the team would “look at where we can improve” for the fourth and final meeting of the series in Johannesburg on Friday.
“I’m proud of the effort to get that close. It’s nice to see the contributions from the lower tier. It’s just a matter of executing what we discussed. This is the ground where you can chase 220. I think it’s almost done. If you If we win that over we will see where we can improve in the next game,” Aiden Markram said in the post-match presentation.
To summarize the match, South Africa won the toss and decided to take the field. Abhishek Sharma (50 runs off 25 balls, 3 fours and 5 sixes) and Tilak Varma (107 off 56 balls, 8 fours and 7 sixes*) helped India to 219/ in the first innings. I raised it to 6. Other batsmen failed to shine.
Andile Simelane and Keshav Maharaj led the Proteas bowling attack and bagged two wickets each in their spell.
During the run chase, Heinrich Klaasen (41 runs off 22 balls, scoring 14 and four sixes) and Marco Jansen (54 runs off 17 balls, 54 runs with fours and a six) kept the Proteas in the game. But with Arshdeep’s help, India eventually won.
Arshdeep did the job with both the new ball and death overs, picking up three important wickets and giving away 37 runs in a four-over spell. Varun Chakaravarthy picked up two wickets in his four-over spell.
