Cricket in India is a religion and the best cricketers are more famous than anyone else in the country. Virat Kohli is one of the Indian cricket icons who has a huge fan following. Fans sometimes cross certain boundaries to meet or even catch a glimpse of superstars. But this is only one side of the story. How do you feel about Kohli and other stars? Australian star and former Royal Challengers Benguluru player Glenn Maxwell briefly shared how players like Kohli deal with such fans.
Maxwell recalled an incident in which he and Kohli were chased by fans as the duo moved to the RCB team hotel while returning from practice. Maxwell revealed that after spotting the Indian star, a group of Kohli fans were so eager to get his attention that they made things really difficult.
“We had a training session where me and him would get in training reasonably early and get everything done. I think it was an optional session so we would hit together and hit for a bit and then wrap it up and say, ‘Ah. , we can ride back to the hotel.’ We jumped in the car and immediately alarm bells went off in my head that this was probably not a good idea, there was a security guard in the front seat of the car and the back of the car was full of police,” Maxwell told LISTNR’s podcast.
“As we were driving out of Chinnaswamy Stadium, people noticed Virat was in the car and started pounding the window with their fists as if they were hitting his car. They were trying to get Virat’s attention and make him look at them. I was surprised. There were no dents in the whole car, so I was just looking at it and thinking, ‘How do you deal with this every day? The way he lives his life is scary.’
