Italy’s rising ski star Mathilde Lorenzi He tragically passed away at just 19 years old after suffering injuries during training, officials announced Tuesday.
Lorenzi fell during a session on the Grawant G1 slope in Val Senales on Monday, according to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation.
After the accident, Lorenzi was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately died from head injuries.
The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) said, “We express our deepest condolences over the tragic death of Mathilde Lorenzi.”
“We express our deepest condolences on the death of Matilde Lorenzi. The Italian Ministry of Defense expresses its sincere condolences to the 19-year-old Italian Army athlete.”
The statement continued… “FIS joins in its condolences with FISI President Flavio Roda and the entire Italian winter sports community, including coaches, players, teammates, the Federal Council and all FISI employees.”
“FISI stands by her family, friends and all who cherished Mathilde and mourns her memory today and always.”
Lorenzi was a promising young talent in sports. In 2023, he won the Italian Junior All-Around Championship and Super-G Champion honors.
She placed sixth in the downhill Junior World Alpine Ski Championships and eighth in the super-G.
American Olympian Lindsey Vonn She expressed her condolences, saying: “This is a tragic loss. My heart goes out to the family.”
