Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made a surprise visit to Mar-a-Lago on Saturday and held a summit meeting with President-elect Trump.
According to the pool report, a number of candidates who are expected to be nominated by President Trump for the next administration have joined them. Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL), elected National Security Advisor; And Scott Bessent was elected Secretary of the Treasury.
CBS News reported that Tillman Fertitta, whom President Trump nominated as ambassador to Italy, also attended the meeting.
President Trump greeted the crowd at Mar-a-Lago and praised the Italian prime minister before a screening of a documentary about his close associate John Eastman.
“This is very interesting. “I’m here with a fantastic woman, the Prime Minister of Italy,” Trump told the crowd Saturday evening.
“She really took Europe and everyone else by storm. “We’re having dinner tonight,” he added.
Rubio called Meloni “a great ally and strong leader,” according to a pool report on the event.
Prime Minister Meloni, who leads Italy’s right-wing government, did not announce the visit in advance, but posted a photo of himself with Trump on social media on Sunday.
“Thank you for your welcome. Have a great evening with @realDonaldTrump. “We are ready to work together,” Meloni posted on social platform X, including an image of the flags of both countries.
The event comes ahead of President Biden’s official visit to Italy later this week, where he is expected to meet Meloni and others.
