Baku, Azerbaijan, December 21. Iran’s current government has approved more than 180 projects approved by the previous government and asked parliament to consider them, Shahram Dabiri, vice-president of Iran’s parliament, told local media.
In response to reports in local Iranian media that a bill on the denomination of the Iranian currency had been resubmitted to parliament, Dabiri said the bill was submitted to the Iranian parliament in 2019 and that there was no new information about the bill.
Dabiri said that after coming to power, the Iranian government approved continuing parliamentary review of projects remaining from the previous government and that the project under consideration was one of those projects.
“Currently, the Iranian parliament’s economic committee is reviewing a project to change the currency denomination and the name of the national currency (from rial to tumen),” he said.
Iran’s parliament adopted the draft national currency unit for 2020 (removing four zeros) and the draft national currency name change at the first reading. However, the expert council corrected the problems in the draft and referred the draft to the National Assembly.
