Baku, Azerbaijan, January 3. The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Bushehr Province, southern Iran, produced a total of 4.3 million megawatt hours of electricity during the nine months of this Iranian year (March 20 to December 20, 2024). Reza Banazadeh of Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant operating company told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, the power produced by Bushehr NPP was consumed in the southern provinces, including Bushehr province.
Banazadeh added that construction of Units 2 and 3 of the Bushehr NPP is currently underway. The commissioning of these two plants will increase the total production potential of the plants to 3,100 MW.
“Currently, 1,000 MW of electricity is produced at Bushehr NPP. Considering the country’s gas shortage, the role of nuclear power plants is very important. The role of nuclear power plants in saving fossil fuels is undeniable,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 began operation in 2011. In 2013, the operation of this mine was transferred from a Russian nuclear company to an Iranian company. At this time, the maximum amount of power, 1000 MWh, was produced. Unit since 2013. Over 10 years, Bushehr NPP’s electricity production amounted to more than 65 billion kilowatt-hours.
For reference, construction of Units 2 and 3 of Bushehr NPP began in 2017 on an area of 50ha. Once these units are commissioned, each unit will be capable of producing 1,057 megawatts of electricity. The commissioning of these two power plants will save 10 million barrels of crude oil or 1.6 billion barrels of gas per year and prevent the release of 7 million tons of polluting gases into the environment.
