Spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraj caught Virat Kohli lbw for 17 runs. The Ultra Edge technology showed a spike on the inside edge of the bat that even Kohli could not notice.
Bangladesh, who had won 2-0 in Pakistan, were dismissed in the final session with former captain Shakib Al Hasan top-scoring with 32 runs against India’s first innings total of 376.
“Overall our hitting was disappointing and we could have done a lot better,” Taskin said.
“India bowled well but we lost too many wickets in the first 10 overs and that took its toll on us.” The home team decided not to force a follow-on and instead looked to increase their lead to 227 runs.
Ravichandran Ashwin took the seventh wicket with Ravindra Jadeja to give Bangladesh a challenging total of 199 runs.
“I think the Bangladesh team has come a long way,” Ashwin told reporters.
“So we have to step on the gas pedal and keep going.”
– Deep Strike and 5 Hassans –
The Indian bowlers came out aggressively and reduced Bangladesh to 40-5 early in the second session as pace bowler Akash Deep struck the tourists with a double strike in successive balls before lunch.
Bumrah broke first to send back Shadman Islam for two. Deep then struck left-hander Zakir Hasan for three and then got a win by rattling Mominul Haque’s stumps.
Mushfiqur Rahim claimed a hat-trick but scored just eight runs before Bhumara’s second wicket of the day.
Shakib and wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das scored 22 runs each to put the team on 51, but Jadeja overpowered them both with his left-arm spin.
Bhumara continued to pounce with bouncers and yorkers, and along with Mohammed Siraj, Mehidy was unbeaten on 27 runs to help Bangladesh keep their tails down.
Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmood rocked India’s batting order on day one, finishing with figures of 5-83, while Ashwin and Jadeja led the home team’s fightback.
The pair resumed play overnight with India on 339-6 but pace bowler Taskin broke the stand early and Jadeja was left behind without adding to his previous score of 86.
Taskin continued to attack and scored his third run with the wicket of hometown hero Ashwin, who was caught by captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto.
Ashwin, 38, received a standing ovation after scoring his sixth Test ton, which included 10 fours and two sixes.
Hasan finished the innings with five wickets, his second in the fourth Test.
