The England and Wales Cricket Board has named a 15-man T20I squad for the upcoming multi-format series against India in January and February next year. Wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler will lead the team in the series, which will be coach Brendan McCollum’s first assignment in the white-ball format.
England will play three ODIs and five T20Is against India before the 2025 Champions Trophy. The England team departs for India on January 17 ahead of the first T20I scheduled for January 22 in Kolkata. Chennai, Rajkot, Pune and Mumbai are scheduled to host the remaining T20I matches of the upcoming series.
Sam Curran and Will Jacks have withdrawn from the England squad for the upcoming series.
Jafer Chohan, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Dan Mousley, Reece Topley and John Turner, who took part in England’s last T20I series against West Indies, have been left out of the squad. The India tour included Rehan Ahmed, Gus Atkinson, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith and Mark Wood.
Key players such as Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt and Jamie Overton retained their places in the squad.
Mark Wood and Jofra Archer to lead the pace attack in India T20Is
Mark Wood and Jofra Archer will lead England’s pace attack which also includes Saqib Mahmood, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton. Adil Rashid and Rehan Ahmed are the team’s frontline spinners, while all-rounder Liam Livingstone can contribute with part-time bowling if required.
Jos Buttler and Phil Salt are likely to open the batting, while the middle order will feature Jacob Bedell, Liam Livingston and Harry Brook. Jamie Smith, who is yet to make his T20I debut, has been included in the squad and could play the role of back-up wicketkeeper. Ben Duckett is the reserve opener for the series.

Following the T20I series, England will play a three-match ODI series in India starting from Nagpur on February 6. The series will serve as an important preparation for the Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February-March 2025 under a hybrid model.
