iFixit has announced a partnership with Microsoft as it begins offering official replacement parts for Microsoft Surface laptops in 2023. As part of that, we’ve provided disassembly videos and step-by-step guides to help simplify this relatively complex repair.
Xbox has done the same, displaying guides for motherboard replacement for each console, detailing each step and providing a list of the parts and tools needed. For example, a motherboard repair requires 29 steps for installation, with the additional step of reassembling everything. However, so far the company has not released any videos, as it does with Surface devices.
iFixit has similar deals with other tech giants to provide replacement parts for Google Pixel tablets and Google Pixel Fold devices. If has teamed up with accessory manufacturer Logitech to offer repair parts for two of its most popular mouse models. The main contender is Apple, but iFixit recently gave the iPhone 16 a decent repairability score after screwing up previous models due to software-limited “part pairing” requirements. Last month, the company disassembled the PS5 Pro and confirmed that it was repairable. However, parts for Sony consoles are not sold.
