New Delhi: ICC has rated Chennai. MA Chidambaram Stadium The stadium used for India’s Test match against Bangladesh has been rated “very good”, while the other four home centers used during the season are considered “satisfactory”. In fact, all three Test stadiums used against New Zealand – Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru, Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Gahunje, Pune and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai – were rated “satisfactory” by the ICC match referee.
However, the outfielder at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium was rated “unsatisfactory” by ICC match referee Jeff Crowe.
The match against Bangladesh was played over just two days due to the government-owned stadium’s poor drainage system, and despite the pitch being rated “satisfactory”, the outfielder did not escape the wrath of the former Kiwi international.
The highly rated tracks of Gwalior, Delhi and Hyderabad used in the Bangladesh T20I were rated “very good” as they complied with the requirements of the shortest format.
But the Indian team management, BCCI and local curators will not want to know that former Australia opener David Boon could not rate any of the Test match tracks used against New Zealand as anything more than “satisfactory”.
There was so much humidity at the Chinnaswamy Stadium that India was bowled out for 46 against New Zealand, and both the Pune and Mumbai tracks were “rank-shifters”, not strictly following the norms laid down for ‘good Test’ match wickets.
However, both tracks escaped with satisfactory viewership ratings thanks to the individual batting averages of both teams.
