The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup has been relocated from Bangladesh and will now be held in the UAE.
“However, they will retain hosting rights and we look forward to bringing ICC Global Events to Bangladesh in the near future.”
The ICC was forced to change the venue of the trial after nationwide anti-government protests in Bangladesh in July and early August, which ended with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigning and fleeing to India. An interim government was subsequently established, but there have been reports of vandalism, looting and violence in Bangladesh.
“On behalf of the BCB, we would also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for their generous sponsorship of the event and Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their support, and we look forward to hosting an ICC global event in both countries in 2026,” said Oladis.
The tournament, featuring 10 teams, will run from October 3 to October 20.
ICC President Barclay to resign in November
Greg Barclay has confirmed to the ICC Board that he will step down as ICC President when his term ends in November.
Barclay was appointed Independent ICC President in November 2020 and was re-elected uncontested in 2022.
The current board members must nominate a candidate for the next chairman by August 27. If there are more than two candidates, an election will be held and the new chairman’s term will begin on December 1.
