There were rumors going around today that Mauricio Pochettino could quit as Chelsea manager this week.
As you know, there are some reviews and meetings taking place this week and Pochettino’s future is uncertain. Chelsea could pull the plug, but it looks like Pochettino could also walk. And honestly, I would totally understand if he did.
He will reportedly consider leaving Chelsea if he is not given a greater say in the club’s transfer policy.
Many people think this is too much, but I think he has the right to demand more power. It doesn’t have all the power, but it definitely has more power.
I reported a source article on my Substack site earlier today saying that Pochettino wants more say in signings, i.e. transfers and transfers.
Pochettino would ideally like to stay, but the situation is not that dry. There are still divisions in the Chelsea side, and as of yesterday morning I was told they were almost 50-50 about retaining Pochettino. Some sources have now suggested things are leaning in his direction, but all may not be on Chelsea’s side.
Pochettino wants more say in transfer decisions. Because I reported it a long time ago and other people have been reporting it recently as well. He’s looking for reassurance that he can get more of what he wants from his team.
He doesn’t want Conor Gallagher or Trevoh Chalobah sold and sees them as key players. He wants a completely new player, starting at left-back. He wants an experienced centre-back to replace Thiago Silva. And he wants a new striker. Proven Premier League players are a common theme when it comes to what Pochettino is looking for in new signings.
Personally I think that if you are the head coach of a team and you think you need a specific profile or player to do setup work or to replace a specific profile you already have on your team, you have the right to request it. that. I also think that if the club you work for is planning to sell key players you’ve pretty much picked from the team every chance they get this season, you too have the right to say something and object.
After all, they are supporting you as a coach, so they should be doing more to support your needs.
And this is coming from someone who still wants to see Pochettino leave this summer, which seems to have now become an unpopular opinion in just three weeks!
