KL Rahul was one of the key players sold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction and was acquired by Delhi Capitals (DC) for a price of Rs 14 crore. Rahul parted ways with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after three years as captain, after which LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka told the media that he only retained players who prioritized the team over personal goals. Now, after joining DC, franchise co-owner Parth Jindal has revealed that Rahul wants “love and respect” from his new team.
“So he (Rahul) said, “I just want to play cricket. I want to feel the love and support of the franchise. I just want to be respected and I know from you Parth. I will get it. I couldn’t be happier to play for my friend and help Delhi win. I have never won the IPL. Delhi has never won a game. Let’s do this together,” said Parth Jindal in an interview with ESPNcricinfo.
Jindal revealed that he had previously spent time with Rahul as he is from Bengaluru and he is the owner of Bengaluru FC.
“He is very happy and very happy to be a part of Delhi. He has known me for a long time. He is a Bangalore (Bengaluru) boy. He has played a few games with me since I own Bengaluru FC (of the Indian Super League). I watched and know his wife Athiya (Shetty) really well, she was a close family friend who grew up in Mumbai.”
Delhi Capitals experienced separation from a star Indian cricketer as Rishabh Pant quit the franchise nine years ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Interestingly, Pant joined Rahul’s previous franchise, LSG.
Rahul is also expected to captain DC, but players like Axar Patel and Faf du Plessis could also be in the running.
