A recent update posted to Steam revealed that retro sci-fi indie shooter Fortune’s Run will be putting all development activities on hold for three years. This is because sole developer ‘Dizzie’ was sentenced to 36 months in prison for living a ‘very different life’ before starting work on Fortune’s Run.
Currently, Fortune’s Run boasts a ‘very positive’ rating on Steam, where it has been around since September 2023.
‘It’s unclear what will happen’
Steam, the sole developer of Fortune’s Run, explained in a post on Valve’s PC platform:
I was sentenced to prison for the next three years. It’s a long story, but before I became a game developer, I had a very different life, and it wasn’t all that great. My case is now about 5 years old. I have been following the legal process throughout this case. I have finally been found guilty and sentenced and am scheduled to leave the country next month.
It’s a shame, but it’s the result of my actions. I was a very violent person and I hurt many people in my life. Unfortunately, that sentence won’t help you with that at all. But I think we all know that.
The post went on to explain that Fortune’s Run had ‘sold decently’ and that once Dizzie is released from prison, they will be able to get back on their feet and get back into the game.
I am very passionate about this field and will never stop making games. I want to end this, but I don’t know how it will turn out. I will do my best because I love this game and want to finish it. Seriously, I just want it to end. Get it over with already, Dizzy!
This news was followed by several additional posts explaining some of the updates and adjustments coming to the game. This will probably be the final change we’ll see in Fortune’s Run for quite some time.
If you want to ‘explore a declining industrial world left behind in humanity’s never-ending race to conquer the stars,’ give Fortune’s Run a try on Steam.
