Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha remains keen to complete the contract of the men’s national cricket team until 2025 despite the country’s recent political turmoil.
There is a high possibility of a major shake-up in the Bangladesh Cricket Board following this turmoil.
“I have signed a contract for a certain period and I am looking forward to completing that term,” Hathurusingha, 55, told reporters in Rawalpindi on Monday.
“If the board changes and new people want to change, that’s fine with me. If they want me to keep doing it and they’re happy with me, then I’m happy with that.”
He also said his “thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones.”
Hathurushingh is preparing his team for the first match of the two-match Test series against Pakistan, which begins at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Former Sri Lanka international cricketer Hathurusingha has been appointed as Bangladesh’s all-formats coach on a two-year contract starting in 2023. Hathurusingha served his second spell as Bangladesh coach after 2014-17 before leaving to coach Sri Lanka.
The Test team’s preparations were disrupted by riots in Bangladesh, and the players arrived in Pakistan last Tuesday for three more days of training in Lahore.
Six Bangladesh Test players were with the national “A” team for a four-day practice match against Pakistan’s Shaheen in Islamabad, but the draw was abandoned due to weather.
Bangladesh’s Test squad includes star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who was a member of parliament in former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government but was playing in Canada when Hasina resigned earlier this month.
Rawalpindi will host the second Test match from August 30.
