The Satsuang was reported to have been held by the following people: Sakar Vishwa Hari Bole BabaFormerly known as Saurabh Kumar, Baba had earlier served in the intelligence wing of the Uttar Pradesh police, according to a Navbharat Times report.
After 17 years of service, he quit his job and began his spiritual journey as a preacher. He was often seen teaching in a white suit and tie.
He organizes satsang programmes with his wife and is also known as ‘Sakar Vishwa Hari Baba of Patiali’. Usually hundreds of people attend his events.
The dead and unconscious victims were taken to the Sikandara Rao Trauma Centre in trucks and other vehicles. The bodies were left lying outside the health centre as people milled around it.
One video clip showed a woman sitting in a truck, crying, amid five or six dead bodies. Another photo showed a man and a woman lying lifelessly in another vehicle.
Eyewitness Shakuntala Devi told PTI video that the rampage broke out after the ‘satsangh’ and people were leaving the place. They fell on top of each other, she said.
Sikandra Rao police station SHO Ashish Kumar said the rampage appeared to have occurred due to overcrowding.
According to officials, a team comprising the Agra Police Commissioner and the Aligarh District Commissioner will investigate the incident.
