At the end of May, Harry Potter finally released a version of Monopoly that many fans probably thought existed already. Hasbro, the publisher of the ubiquitous board game, has partnered with all the big movie and TV franchises, but Harry Potter wasn’t one of them. Surprising, we know. But now fans won’t have to make their own version of Monopoly set in the wizarding world anymore, and Monopoly: Harry Potter Edition is on sale for the first time on Amazon, dropping the price to $32 (previously $40) for Prime members.
As of 2:15 PM PT on July 19th, it’s almost sold out on Amazon. Get Monopoly: Harry Potter Edition for $33 at Walmart. Plus, you don’t need a membership to take advantage of Walmart’s discounts.
Like other Monopoly reskins, this version retains the core rules and gameplay of the original board game, but features characters, locations, and art from the Harry Potter series remixed. Player pieces are now the Hogwarts Express, the Knight Bus, the Firebolt Broom, Hagrid’s Motorbike, the Hippogriff, and the Thestrals. Paper money is replaced by points earned from the Hogwarts Houses that players are sorted into at the start of the game. From there, it proceeds like a regular Monopoly session, with players claiming rights to locations such as the Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch, Dumbledore’s Office, and Hogsmeade Station.

Harry Potter remains a popular franchise, but the hateful, anti-trans views of the original novels’ author and creator, J.K. Rowling, have tarnished the series in recent years. While Rowling wasn’t directly involved in the creation of Monopoly: Harry Potter Edition or any of the other board games, she benefits financially from their sales. Our article on how Rowling’s comments have affected the trans community provides more information about her history of anti-trans bias.
