Outgoing Democratic National Committee Chairman Jamie Harrison said in an interview Sunday that Democrats should focus on building out existing infrastructure that still remains from the last election cycle.
In an interview on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday,” Harrison also added that he thinks he will leave the DNC in a better position than when he found it.
“I actually think the DNC I’m about to hand over the keys to the next chair is much more powerful than the DNC I had. And that’s exactly what you want,” Harrison said. “You want to make sure you’re in better shape than you ever were.”
Harrison said the DNC has invested $260 million in each state party to provide the next chairperson with a foundation to build infrastructure.
“For the first time in a long time, we’re putting money into every state party, all 50 states, our territories and overseas Democrats. And that’s a resource and it helped build the infrastructure that these new chairs could be built on top of,” Harrison said. “But there is still so much to do.”
Harrison said that although Vice President Harris lost the top spot, there was still a battleground in the Senate race where Democrats defeated Republicans.
“The election results were not what we wanted. Because it has to do with the top of the table. But when you start looking at the down ballots… We still won a very competitive congressional race in that district in the state. Like North Carolina, we won almost every primary in the state except the presidential election,” Harrison said.
“So this is not a time to blow everything up and start over. “Now is the time to build on the infrastructure we have so that we once again have a White House for the American people in 2028.”
