Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, said in a statement released on social media that he supports Trump in the presidential race, citing in part the Trump administration’s approach to space and the creation of the U.S. Space Force.
Aldrin, who served as Apollo 11’s lunar module pilot, said the United States faces challenges at home and abroad and that the country needs a “proven, serious, proven presidential leader.”
“Most citizens feel honored to vote for the leader they believe will best serve their country – a government of the people, by the people, for the people,” he said. “For me and our country’s future, for the tremendous challenges faced and for the policy achievements demonstrated above, I believe that voting for Donald J. Trump is in the best interest of our country. I wholeheartedly support him for President of the United States. “God bless President Trump and America.”
Aldrin said that the job of president “requires cool-headed analysis of dire scenarios and the instinct to lead with decisiveness,” and that the presidency requires “an understanding of human nature, clarity of judgment, decisiveness, knowledge, and the ability to lead with understanding and under pressure.” He said that “calmness” is needed. He said there are very few people like that.
“In this election, we have a choice. We all have one vote,” he said. “For some, the choice may not be easy, but in times of uncertainty, true leaders are most needed to guide and inspire people, to cut through the noise, to recognize what really matters, and to accomplish the missions that matter to all citizens. .”
