washington — Vice President Kamala Harris has increasingly questioned former President Donald Trump’s ability to handle the demands of another four years in the White House, as she tries to contrast her own age with Trump’s.
“It appears that his team is at least saying he is suffering from fatigue,” Harris, who turns 60 on Sunday, told reporters in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Friday.
Harris cited a Politico report that said several ongoing Trump interviews were fruitless because the 78-year-old Republican candidate was “tired.” “This is categorically false,” a Trump campaign spokesperson told POLITICO.
“Look, being President of the United States is probably one of the most difficult jobs in the world, so we need to ask whether he’s tired of campaigning and whether he’s fit for the job. And I think that’s an open-ended question, so We need answers,” Harris said.
“It’s a legitimate question,” Harris said, adding, “If you can’t handle the rigors of the campaign process, it’s going to be a problem.”
Trump has not yet released his latest medical records and insisted on Friday that “you have it all.”
His campaign said he was in “perfect and excellent health” to be president. In November 2023, Trump shared a letter from an osteopathic physician stating that he had been examined in September 2023 and was in “excellent overall health.” The letter did not provide specific details about his vitals or medications.
“I’ve taken five tests in the last four years,” Trump told CBS News during a campaign stop in Michigan.
When asked whether he had actually released all of his medical records, Trump demanded that Harris take a cognitive test.
“Obviously I have a very big and contentious fight that we are leading,” he said. “I also took a health checkup. I also took a cognitive test twice, and I got a perfect score. I can’t do cognitive tests, so I want to see what you do. You were born smart.”
President Trump also added, “It’s now been 48 days without a break,” adding, “I’m not tired and I’m really excited.”
If elected in November, Trump will become the oldest person ever to hold the Oval Office.
harris The letter was made public. Last week, her doctors said she was “very healthy” and “possesses the physical and mental resilience” needed to serve as president. Her doctor, Dr. Joshua Simmons, said Harris’ recent blood and other test results were “unremarkable” and that she had no personal history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, neurological disorders or other serious conditions. He noted that she had a history of allergies and hives (also known as urticaria) and had been receiving allergen immunotherapy for the past three years.
in recent lettersMore than 230 doctors, nurses and medical experts, most of whom support Harris, called on Trump to release his health records, saying he was “showing alarming signs of decreased acuity.” The letter says that because there are no detailed records, “we must make assumptions based on public appearances.”
