Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R) announced Thursday that he will not vote for his party’s presumptive presidential nominee, Donald Trump, in the 2024 election.
Cox told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that she, too, will not be voting for President Joe Biden and will instead “write down and vote for someone.”
But in the same interview, Cox confusingly said he still hopes former President Trump “succeeds” and his party “wins.”
“I haven’t voted for the top of the ticket since 2012. I definitely had concerns, and one of them was what happened on Jan. 6,” Cox said.
“I’m hopeful. I hope my party wins,” he continued. “They chose a candidate this time who wasn’t my first choice. It wasn’t my first choice last time either, but the party spoke and that’s who they chose.”
“I support him. I hope Donald Trump succeeds. I hope my party wins,” he added.
Cox said he was “very nervous” about who Trump would choose as his running mate because it could “change things up” for his campaign, and that North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum would be his choice.
“I think he’s the guy who can really unite the party and get us going with President Trump in November,” he told Collins.
