Online brand GhostBed offers a variety of mattresses. From more affordable all-foam beds to luxury hybrids with patented cooling technology, this brand really seems to have something for everyone. These days, the lineup also includes high-quality RV mattresses.
Of all the beds to choose from, the brand’s flagship mattress is probably the GhostBed Classic. This is a simple, all-foam choice with acceptable firmness but a somewhat subtle build and feel. In this review, we’ll cover everything you need to know about this incredibly unique bed.
First impressions of GhostBed Classic
Shortly after ordering online, this bed arrived at our space with absolutely free shipping. It came in a tall cardboard box, and like any other box-within-a-box, I dumped the contents, peeled off the plastic, and watched the bed inflate. Because it’s a 100% foam mattress, it seemed slightly out of shape right out of the box, but after sitting on the foundation for a night to expand and expand, it looked completely normal.
In the morning it was mattress testing time. When I tested the responsiveness, it felt very different from a regular all-foam bed. The response was surprisingly quick, but the more I pushed it into the bed, the more dense and viscous it felt. This was further confirmed when I boarded. My back and stomach felt pushed and supported a lot, but when I turned it to the side, it fit my shoulders and hips well and had plenty of cushioning, so it felt more subtle than neutral to me.

The firmness and feel of the GhostBed Classic mattress
What does the GhostBed Classic mattress feel like?
We classify this type of mattress feel as a mixed foam mattress. The bed’s memory foam transition layer sinks into your body and relieves pressure on your sides, while the top layer of latex foam provides ample responsiveness for back or stomach sleepers. Beds like this are made up of two completely different types of foam, often giving them more of a mixed foam feel. It may sound strange, but it’s very cozy.
How firm is the GhostBed Classic mattress?
This bed is somewhere in the middle of our scale. It provides sleepers with equal parts pressure relief and support, making them versatile enough to work with all sleeper types. Whether you want to sleep on your back, side, stomach, or all three in that order for one night, these options are plenty acceptable.
Buying a bed with a neutral firmness level like this is often a safe bet. This is especially true if you are not sure how firm you want your bed to be. Medium firmness is the best of both worlds: soft and firm at the same time. I personally sleep on a medium sized bed and really like the comfort it provides. If you want a very soft option, you don’t have to. But check out our list of the best mattresses for side sleepers to see what other beds might suit those preferences.
GhostBed Classic mattress configuration
This mattress is 11 inches thick and is made up of three foam layers.
- The bottom has a thick layer of dense support foam. This provides the main support base for the mattress.
- The bed then has a temporary layer of gel-infused memory foam. This layer relieves pressure when sleeping on your side and acts as a cushion between the bed support layer and the comfort layer.
- On top, the GhostBed Classic has a latex foam layer for comfort. This balances the dense feel of the memory foam underneath with responsive, springy comfort.
- The bed is covered with breathable, soft covers. It is very cozy and will help keep the temperature neutral while you sleep on the mattress at night.
GhostBed Classic Mattress Performance
motion isolation
If you or your partner are particularly heavy sleepers, this is an important thing to consider in your next mattress. Sometimes one person can wake the other if they move too much or wake up in the middle of the night. If so, you’ll want a bed that provides good motion control. I’d say the GhostBed Classic does a good job in terms of blocking movement between mattresses. I doubt you’ll be pushing anyone awake in this particular bed anytime soon.
Edge-to-edge support
For a full foam mattress, I would say the GhostBed Classic has good edge support. Support foam at the top of the bed and responsive latex foam help keep you firmly in place along the edges of the bed as you put your weight around it. If edge support is an important consideration for you or your partner, you might want to consider a hybrid mattress with reinforcing coils along the edges instead of foam. Still, you shouldn’t feel like you’re going to fall off the mattress at any point. Phew, I’m so glad.
temperature
As mentioned earlier, the GhostBed Classic should sleep in a temperature-neutral range. While you can’t actively cool your body while you sleep, it can’t keep you warm either. Most online mattresses perform similarly when it comes to temperature regulation, which often depends on external factors as well as the bed itself. That said, GhostBed as a brand has other active cooling beds to consider, and if you want to see more, you can always check out our list of the best cooling mattresses for hot sleepers.
durability
The GhostBed Classic should be durable enough to last the average body type for at least the next 7 to 10 years. When it comes to mattress durability online, we generally say that hybrid beds with support coils outperform full foam support bases in the long run. Foam degrades a little faster than steel coil over time. That said, compared to the very affordable options you can find on Amazon, this mattress is constructed of higher quality, which helps reduce long-term durability issues.
Who is the GhostBed Classic mattress best suited for?
Given its subtle structure and feel, this bed is absolutely not the best fit for everyone. Most people generally find the beds comfortable and accommodating, but here are the people who will enjoy these beds the most:
sleeping position
Combination sleepers who transition into different positions throughout the night will get the most out of the GhostBed Classic. The medium firmness provides enough support for back and stomach sleepers while providing enough pressure relief to accommodate most side sleepers. All types of sleepers will do well on this mattress.
When it comes to more specific sleep preferences, things get a little trickier. If you want a very firm or very soft mattress, this may not necessarily be your dream bed. Most of GhostBed’s beds are medium firm to accommodate a variety of sleepers, but not all. If you want to sleep on an even firmer style of mattress, you can always check out our list of the best ultra-firm mattresses.
form
This mattress is best suited to support average to petite individuals. Heavier people can use this style of all-foam bed, but may prefer a more supportive hybrid mattress with coils. If you’re on the much heavier side and want to check out other strong support options, feel free to read our list of the best beds for heavy people.
GhostBed Classic Mattress Price
size | Measurements in inches | price |
---|---|---|
pair | 38×75 inches | $1,195 |
Twin XL | 38×80 inches | $1,295 |
saturated | 54×75 inches | $1,395 |
queen | 60×80 inches | $1,495 |
king | 76×80 inches | $1,815 |
carl king | 72×84 inches | $1,825 |
One of my favorite things about this mattress is that it is affordable. Especially after discounts are applied. As a brand, GhostBed is usually great for bed promotions throughout the year. Currently, you can expect to pay around $900 for a queen size, which is a lot of money for a mixed foam bed of this quality.
Trials, Delivery and Warranty
GhostBed also offers more than just a set of policies. The Classic mattress ships completely free in the box, and once you purchase it, you can try it risk-free at home with a 101-night trial period. If you don’t like the product within that period, you can return it for free and receive a full refund. On the other hand, if you decide to keep it, it comes with a 20-year warranty. Use a foundation suitable for your bed. Failure to do so may void the bed warranty.
How does the GhostBed Classic compare to other mattresses?
GhostBed Classic vs. Nectar Classic
Aside from the flagship GhostBed, another popular online mattress to consider is the Nectar Classic. Unlike the GhostBed Classic, the Nectar Classic comes in a choice of all-foam or hybrid versions. Compared to the blended foam feel of the GhostBed Classic, the Nectar mattress has more of a responsive memory foam quality. Plus, if you choose one of the support options, it’ll be a little more solid, and after the discount, it’ll be a lot cheaper. If you’re looking for an option backed by the most consumer-friendly policies, Nectar is the clear winner between the two in that department.
Comparison of GhostBed Classic and Bear Original
Another bed that can be compared to the GhostBed Classic is the Bear Original, a popular all-foam product. Another three-ply foam mattress, but instead of a blended foam feel, the Bear Original offers sleepers a more firm sink-in memory foam quality. Bear backs its mattresses with slightly better policies and is also cheaper after discounts. You can also spend the money to get the Bear Original with a Celliant cover, which can move the needle for more exercise types.
final verdict
There’s a reason why GhostBed Classic is a popular online mattress choice. It sets itself apart from other products by transforming the feel of the mattress, providing sleepers with overall comfort. If you want a bed with a medium blended foam feel and have a higher budget when purchasing your next mattress, I’d consider it.
You will love this mattress if:
- Are you looking for an all-foam mattress?
- Want a mixed foam feel?
- Beds that require a medium firmness
- Do you want a good quality mattress at an affordable price?
You may not like this mattress if:
- Are you looking for a more supportive hybrid bed?
- Those who prefer a mattress with a neutral feel
- Want to spend money on a more premium option
- The budget is very tight.
It’s actually a pretty wholesome story. The founder of GhostBed must have been afraid of ghosts lurking under his bed as a child. He stuck with that idea until he started his own mattress company. It sounds like a dream, but it’s true.
Neither. Well, at least the classics don’t. This is medium on the firmness scale, meaning it provides sleepers with a balance of support and comfort. Without being too soft or too hard, this firmness suits a variety of sleep preferences.
The short answer is yes. All GhostBed mattresses are made and manufactured in the USA. Additionally, all materials used in construction are CertiPUR-US certified. This means it is built in an ethical and non-toxic manner.
