Netflix’s Castlevania animated series is now available on Blu-ray.
In case you missed it when it first aired, Castlevania follows vampire hunter Trevor Belmont, powerful witch Sypha, and Alucard as they take on Dracula and his army of demons. The second half of the show focuses on a group of vampires trying to build their own undead kingdom, and the foul-mouthed Grim Reaper himself (this may be Malcolm McDowell’s best role ever).
As expected, the show features violent, beautifully animated action scenes and, in some quiet scenes, jokes that are sharper than a razor blade. Additional content includes behind-the-scenes videos, voice actor interviews, storyboards, art galleries, and more throughout the box set.
Aside from the incredible discounts on Prime Big Deal Days, there’s another reason now is a great time to pick up Castlevania to watch (or rewatch). Actually there are two reasons. Set hundreds of years after the original Castlevania animated series, Nocturne Season 1 follows Richter Belmont and takes inspiration from the 1993 PC Engine game Rondo of Blood. Some fans may know this game better by another name. Rondo of Blood was sold exclusively in Japan at the time of release. Konami brought the story to North America with Castlevania: Dracula X on the Super Nintendo.
Netflix recently announced Season 2 of Nocturne, which will debut in January. Season 2 is inspired by the classic original PlayStation game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, the sequel to Rondo of Blood.
