To kick off 2025, Treyarch has finally revealed some community-requested changes to Black Ops 6 in the January 3rd update.
Despite being billed as the “biggest Call of Duty ever” at launch, Black Ops 6’s player numbers have taken a hit recently. At launch on Steam, peak concurrent players were 315,000, but this dropped to just over 100,000 by the end of December.
As other fun multiplayer titles like Marvel Rivals thrived, content creators like Nadeshot and other players abandoned ship due to performance and cheating issues.
Thankfully, Treyarch listened to community feedback and gave fans a reason to return to BO6.
Multiplayer and Zombies Changes Coming to Black Ops 6
Details are in the full patch notes, but here’s a preview of what to expect:
- New modes for MP and Zombies
- MP’s High Roller Wildcard
- Zombie’s Elemental Sword Buff
- Prop Hunting Improvements
- Dead Man’s Citadel bug fix
- Zombie Calling Card Challenge Update
- Improved after-action reporting
In addition to these updates, players can enjoy Double XP benefits until January 3rd. However, some people are finding that the XP they earn in Warzone and multiplayer isn’t what they expected. One player proved that he was earning less XP than if he had used Double XP tokens instead.
Despite these shortcomings, there is a lot to look forward to in this update. The High Roller Wildcard allows players to equip additional Scorestreaks. BO6 doesn’t have a repeatable killstreak feature, so it’s the perfect compromise for experienced players who enjoy games with high kill counts on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, players enjoyed solving the mystery of unlocking each elemental sword in the Citadelle des Morts when the map first released, but were disappointed when they finally got their hands on it.
Compared to other Wonder Weapons, the sword lacked the same punch. In this update, the sword will finally be enhanced, making it even more worth obtaining.
