News recently broke that GAME is preparing layoffs and putting employees on zero-hours contracts. Before that, the company stopped selling and buying used tech and software, confirming the end of an era for the iconic high street essential.
In this latest twist, the retailer revealed plans to end GAME Rewards, which for the past 20 years has allowed customers to earn points on purchases that can then be redeemed for future purchases online or in stores. The GAME Reward card also allows consumers to pre-order and receive exclusive in-store special offers.
On July 15th, customers Stop You can earn points on purchases, and everyone has until July 31 to redeem any outstanding points. The problem is that most GAME stores (currently Sports Direct and House of Fraser in-store concessions) do not allow you to process transactions using the GAME Rewards Card as a payment option. The best course of action is to use your outstanding credit on the website.
The end of GAME Elite means that monthly sweepstakes, exclusive promotions and points-based enhanced rewards will also end on July 31. This ends one of the only reasons to continue shopping at GAME stores.
Many people are predicting that within a year or so GAME will be limited to online stores, which is sad for UK-based gamers, especially nostalgic gamers.
