Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest book-shaped foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, in July. The South Korean company has increased the price by $100, bringing the starting price to $1,900.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 takes a step towards durability and offers protection against water ingress for the first time. It also features a lighter design and new AI features. But overall, it’s just an incremental upgrade, like the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 6 that was also unveiled at the Samsung Unpacked event a few months ago.
This story is part of: samsung eventCNET’s collection of news, tips and advice on Samsung’s hottest products.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a slightly larger 6.3-inch cover screen that opens like a book to create a larger 7.6-inch display. Each display is sharper than the previous model, and both have a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone also gets regular upgrades to its processor, which takes the form of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Samsung says this chip is optimized for AI.
The camera setup consists of five cameras and appears to be the same as the one found on the Z Fold 5. You can scroll to the specifications chart for more details about the camera module. We’ll have to see how the Z Fold 6 and Z Fold 5 cameras compare in real life. Because the former probably has a more advanced chipset that will help improve your photography skills.

Besides the price increase, the more noticeable changes are the more compact design and durability. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 weighs 239 g (8.4 ounces), which is lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (253 g) and Galaxy Z Fold 4 (263 g). The Z Fold 6 is also slimmer than its predecessor, being over 1.3mm wider when folded compared to the Z Fold 5 and 3.7mm thinner than the Z Fold 4.
In addition to the eye-watering price, the bulky book-like foldable design and substandard durability have been obstacles to the popularization of foldable phones. It’s promising that Samsung is making progress in both areas. Foldable phones still make up a small portion of the overall smartphone market, but their share is growing, according to the research firm. Samsung is confident that AI can help fill some of these foundations as well.
Google’s Gemini app is fully integrated into the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Other features include Live Translate, which translates phone calls in real time directly on your device. At the moment, it’s unclear whether the new AI features are optimized for foldable phone designs.
