Today saw the first bits of Enzo Maresca content flooding the media and social media as Chelsea released the first interview and photos of their new manager.
His words were really great. I enjoyed hearing him and seeing him at Stamford Bridge today. It gives me new hope for the new season. I think he spoke very well and said the right things. It was honest and real.
But some of the reactions I’ve seen have been a bit too extreme. Some people are already dismissing him because he’s inexperienced and a ‘championship’ manager. Others are completely over-rating him and are typing ‘aura’ and ‘aura’ into every image of Maresca today.
Just stop! Either way, let’s relax a bit and let him come in, settle in, get the team together, put his style of play in place and let him do his job. Just support him. Don’t go overboard and think this is the next Pep Guardiola. That’s happened a lot recently, hasn’t it?
I’m glad that all this has come out today and I’m feeling optimistic. As I said, his interview and the first images at Stamford Bridge are very positive and good to see. It gives me a little more hope. But I’m trying to be a little more cautiously optimistic going forward.
Maresca has a very difficult task and I am content to just sit back and cheer them on and see what happens. I think we can be quietly confident but not too cocky or overly excited right now. Chelsea have a long way to go before they can challenge for the top spot again and there are many top teams in this league right now. We have a long way to go.
I think being overly positive can be just as bad as being overly negative. Pressure and hype can be bad. I’m all for supporting them and supporting the new manager, but let’s support them without putting pressure on them right now.
