Former Trump aide Hogan Gidley said the reason President-elect Trump did not nominate a Treasury secretary was because of overwhelming interest in the position.
“There are a lot of people competing for that position. As you know, this is a very important position for the incoming administration. The American people vote primarily on the economy,” Gidley told Blake Burman on NewsNation’s “The Hill” on Thursday.
Although he declined to take office, Trump added that he was looking for someone “trustworthy” who would be “loyal” to his values, ideals and vision for the incoming administration.
“There’s a lot of people, I’ve been at Mar-a-Lago for a few days and watched the jockeys race,” Gidley said.
“I think a lot of people want to be part of that administration. Because they know that the best days for America are yet to come. America makes us more feared, loved, and respected on the world stage, but their lives are better,” Gidley continued. “They want to be a little part of it.”
Close Trump advisers like Elon Musk have promoted a variety of candidates, including Howard Lutnick, while others, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), have defended Scott Bessent. Former President Lee is expected to make an announcement revealing his choice soon.
