Former Trump campaign adviser David Urban suggested the former president promise to pardon Hunter Biden, who was convicted Tuesday on federal gun charges.
“Listen, what I would like to see is President Trump issue a statement like this: ‘Look, if Hunter Biden commits to a sobriety program, whether inpatient or maybe even outpatient, then he shows up and maintains his health. Get sober, I forgive him,’ Urban said on CNN’s ‘Out Front with Erin Burnett.’
“I would like President Trump to say that. “It would be a tremendous proposal for him, it would show humanity, and it would actually turn the tables on the Democratic Party,” he added.
Urban is a CNN commentator who served as a senior advisor to the Trump campaign in 2016. He once weighed in on the 2024 presidential election, saying last year’s first Republican presidential primary debate was “a total failure.”
President Biden’s son was found guilty Tuesday by a jury of Delaware residents on three felony gun charges stemming from gun purchases that occurred six years ago. Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison and a $750,000 fine, but first-time offenders rarely receive the maximum sentence.
In a statement following this week’s ruling, Biden emphasized his love and support for his son and said he would accept the outcome of his case. He reiterated that he would not forgive his son.
The White House on Wednesday did not rule out whether Biden would commute his son’s sentence.
White House press secretary Carine Jean-Pierre said of the possibility of a reduced sentence, “I have not spoken to the president about this since the verdict was announced, and as we all know, a sentencing schedule has not yet been set.”
“He was asked about the pardon, and specifically about the trial, and he answered very clearly and honestly. As you know, the sentencing schedule has not been set yet. I have nothing to say other than what the President said. He was very clear about this,” she added.
