Former Roma midfielder Maxim Gonalons has announced his retirement from professional football.
Posted via his official Instagram The 35-year-old Frenchman shared a heartfelt message alongside his career photos, showing off the kits of the clubs he has played for – from the French national team to Lyon, Roma, Sevilla, Granada and Clermont.
“Thank you, football world,” Gonalons wrote in a brief farewell note.
Among the likes for his announcement were nods of support from former Giallorossi teammates Daniele De Rossi and Edin Džeko.
The midfielder originally joined Roma for €5 million in the summer of 2017, leaving his boyhood club Lyon after 17 years. He played a full season in the Italian capital, making a total of 23 appearances and registering two assists.
He joined Sevilla on loan the following season, reuniting with former Roma executive Ramon Monchi, before moving to Granada on a permanent deal in 2019.
