Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissman highlighted what stood out to former President Donald Trump in a virtual interview with his probation officer after he was found guilty in a hush trial on Sunday.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee will reportedly hold an online talk on Monday. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11.
Weissmann, a legal analyst at MSNBC, told Jen Psaki, the former Biden White House press secretary turned network anchor, that one of the questions Trump will ask is “whether he has ties to criminals.”
“This is truly amazing,” he declared.
Weissman noted that Trump “will have to discuss whether he is still working with Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and Steve Bannon.” “Remember. “Those people were all convicted by juries and are felons themselves, so that’s another area where the probation department can ask questions, and it will be interesting to see what Donald Trump has to say about that.”
Weissmann previously suggested the interview would be a “defeat” for Trump.
“There was nothing wrong with him telling the probation office, ‘I didn’t do anything wrong, I don’t plead guilty, and I plan to appeal,’” Weissmann acknowledged. “Every defendant has the right to do that.”
“But not if he started saying the things he said during and after the trial to attack jurors, witnesses, judges and families to promote false anti-law enforcement sentiments. To say the least, it will go that well,” he explained.
Judge Juan Mechan, who oversaw the trial, fined Trump a total of $10,000 for 10 violations of the gag order.
