Australia U18 coach Shannon Fraser has announced the match against the New Zealand school on Sunday 6 November at the Chiefs’ home stadium, FMG Stadium Waikato. This is the final leg of the tour across the ditch.
The young team kicked off their tour with a thrilling and electrifying clash with the NZ Barbarians earlier this week. The 57-47 shootout highlighted some incredible tries, but many questions could be asked about the defence.
The NZ school will provide plenty of questions in this regard, but Fraser has rewarded the majority of his squad with consistent form.
New Waratah Zach Fittler, son of NRL legend Brad Fittler, is on tour and retained his spot as a bench option at center after Wednesday’s mixed match, putting in some good performances but also making a few mistakes. I also did it.
However, Fraser opted to make three changes to the squad, with Nudgee product Nick Conway coming into the starting flank on the wing and NSW products Hayden Lavercombe and TJ Talaileva joining Fittler on the bench, completing further changes to the squad.
Wednesday’s win over Baabaas unearthed some exciting prospects coming through the route program, with captain Tom Robinson, his loose forward teammates Eli Langi and Heinz Lemoto featuring in physical contests and supported by center and vice-captain Frankie Goldsbrough and winger Heamasi I did it. Macacini’s victory.
But what really stood out was the Kingsley Uys prop. The barnstorming prop picked up two tries for his efforts and showed all the qualities of a player similar to Angus Bell, one of the Wallabies’ current best.
The match kicks off at 2pm AEDT and can be streamed live on the New Zealand Rugby YouTube channel.
