After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, the players departed for Mumbai. In Mumbai, the Men in Blue had an open bus victory parade from Marine Drive to the iconic Wankhede Stadium. It was a memorable and awe-inspiring sight to see thousands of fans throng Marine Drive and surround the bus before it even picked up the Indian players.
The team headed to Wankhede amidst the cheers, chants and applause of their enthusiastic fans. At Wankhede, they were felicitated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials with a cash prize of Rs 125 crore. The players also talked about their victory and the performance of their key players in the T20 World Cup and danced their hearts out in the packed Wankhede. The event also saw the players take a victory lap to the tune of the country’s national anthem, ‘Vande Mataram’.
The flight, which was led by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah, left hurricane-stricken Barbados on July 2 and arrived in Delhi around 6am on Thursday. Commission officials and the tournament media delegation were also on board.
