The creators of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy have assured players that the third part will not be limited to PlayStation 6.
The first part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake was initially exclusive to PS4, but was released on PS5 and PC a little over a year later.
The second part, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, was initially released only on PS5, with the PC version released today.
Because each part takes a long time to develop, some have speculated that the as-yet-untitled third part of the trilogy could continue this trend and release exclusively on PS6.
But series producer Yoshinori Kitase says players don’t need to worry about this.
“I think for those of you who have played FF7 Remake on PS4 and FF7 Rebirth on PS5, there may be some concern that the third installment will be the next one,” Kitase told Japanese publication 4Gamer, with the interviewer saying, generation console”.
Kitase smiled and replied, “No, you can rest assured about the next piece.”
Kitase added that work on the third part “started in March-April 2024, right after Rebirth ended, so we’ve already been in development for about nine months.”
It’s important to note that Kitase’s comments don’t necessarily mean that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 won’t be exclusive to PlayStation consoles when it releases, just that it won’t be exclusive to PS6.
The terms of Square Enix’s exclusive agreement with Sony for the third part are unknown. While the first two parts are PlayStation exclusives, Square Enix has made it clear in recent months that it is adopting a multi-format release strategy for all of its games. from now on.
The director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth recently said he would like to see the remake trilogy appear on more platforms, praising Xbox in particular. Previously, Final Fantasy producer Naoki Yoshida said that he would like to release Final Fantasy 16 on the Xbox platform.
Square Enix announced plans to “shift to a multi-platform strategy” in September after saying sales of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 “fell short of expectations.”
However, it is not yet known how this strategy will affect Final Fantasy 7 Part 3, and whether an exclusive deal has already been agreed upon with Sony in advance.
