Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has named four players who are highly unlikely to feature for Chelsea in 2024-25. Romano believes Romelu Lukaku, Hakim Ziyech, Armando Broya and Ian Maatsen could all be on the way out in the summer transfer window.
Chelsea will get rid of at least four loan players, Fabrizio Romano has suggested.
Premier League heavyweights Chelsea have one of the biggest rosters in Europe. The Blues often send underperforming, unsatisfactory or unstable players out on loan rather than selling them immediately, allowing them to prove themselves. They also take this route when they are unable to elicit a sufficiently lucrative offer for a player they want to sell. If players impress during their loan period, their chances of receiving a better offer from their parent club greatly increase.
Last summer, Chelsea loaned Lukaku to AS Roma and Ziyech to Galatasaray but failed to agree a permanent deal. In January, Broza and Maatsen left for Fulham and Borussia Dortmund respectively in search of playing time. According to Romano, none of the four players are currently in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans and are likely to leave when the summer transfer window opens.
In CaughtOffside’s Daily Briefing column, Romano said:
“It looks like we could see him move away from Chelsea this summer. This is especially true for players currently on loan.
“As previously reported, Armando Broya is set to be sold upon his return from his loan spell at Fulham, while Hakim Ziyech could already be considered to have played his last game for Chelsea. I also expect Romelu Lukaku and Ian Maatsen to leave Chelsea, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens with the rest.”
How were the four loan players performing this season?
Lukaku, who moved to Chelsea from Inter Milan for 113 million euros ($121.3 million) in August 2021, has been in good form at AS Roma. He appeared in 44 games in all competitions, scoring 20 goals and providing 4 assists.
Meanwhile, right-winger Ziyech, who cost Chelsea 40 million euros ($42.94 million) in 2020, is struggling with fitness issues. He scored eight goals and provided four assists in just 21 appearances across the competition.
After graduating from the academy, Maatsen has performed well for Dortmund, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 20 appearances across competitions. He is expected to start in Dortmund’s Champions League final against Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium on June 1. Lastly, Broya only played sporadically for Fulham. In seven Premier League games, he provided only an assist.
