The Las Vegas Police Department is investigating after a car was set on fire at the entrance to the Trump International Hotel Wednesday morning.
Video shared on social media by spectators showed a Tesla Cybertruck engulfed in flames just outside the hotel lobby.
A Clark County Fire Department spokesperson told HuffPost they received a call at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday reporting a vehicle fire in the valet parking area outside the Trump Hotel at 2000 Fashion Show Drive, but could not elaborate further.
Police said the fire was extinguished less than two hours later and urged residents to avoid the area.
Onlookers, who shared footage on social media of a huge plume of smoke billowing from the front of the building, said they heard an explosion. Another described it as “like dropping a trash can on the ground and dragging it across the ground for 10 seconds.”
Another video shows people exiting the back of the building.
It is unclear whether there were any injuries in this incident. Video posted to social media early Wednesday showed at least two ambulances at the scene, along with several police cars.
Some early Tesla models, including the Model S, had a tendency to spontaneously combust when damaged under the body, but it is unlikely that the Cybertruck, which has been recalled seven times since its launch in November 2023, will be released with a similar defect.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
