May 22, 2024 – The European Fact-Checking Standards Network, in collaboration with participating member organizations, launches the Climate Facts Europe database, supported by the European Climate Foundation. I did. The goal of the project is to increase cross-border cooperation in detecting and debunking climate disinformation while promoting access to verified climate information.
climate facts europe
Climate Facts Europe is a multifaceted project that includes a public database where the European public can search for fact-checks related to climate misinformation. The project will also establish an alert system to alert participating fact-checking organizations and the European Climate Foundation to cross-border climate disinformation campaigns and narratives.
Additionally, seven organizations selected from participating members produce four long-form reports, published approximately once a month, using cross-border data covering a variety of climate-related topics.
“We have already seen in recent months that climate-related misinformation is one of the key topics ahead of the European elections, influencing not only political debates but also conversations about separate issues such as public health or civil liberties. Climate Facts Europe will allow us to analyze this phenomenon in depth and sound the alarm when we discover new false narratives,” said Carlos Hernández-Echevarría, Chair of the EFCSN Governance Body.
In the meantime, stay up to date on climate misinformation trends by subscribing to EFCSN’s newsletter. Here we will share debunked climate disinformation narratives identified with the help of our database.
